an idea

was gonna put this one of the flash sections but no one reads them anymore, so im just gonna put it here.

anyway, i was just thinking about bm and how one of it major limitations was that it only had a set number planet, ship, and station sprites and whatnot, so what if we could add more with out directly adding them to the source file, but instead streaming them from an online database of hundreds of sprites. making the hole game way more expansive, realistic and customisable, so players could pick and chose which ships they wanted. this would also mean it would have a pretty quick loading time which was one the problems i encountered when i started editing the game eventually you just get a massive file size that took forever to load. so yeah just a thought not sure how difficult it would be to put into practice though.

thoughts?

Sounds legit, but can you actually do it?

Personally I'd like to see some shuttle craft added... (Or some feature that allows you to leave your ship in a shuttle and then return provided you have a shuttle in your bay) But for now, your idea, looks really good. I offer my support. My shit computer and my MS Paint skills, are at your disposal. Just don't ask me for any images that aren't square. XD

Also, the drydocks... I did some shit concept sprites for this a while back, I can probably make new ones again, but the drydocks I made had ships in them under construction, would be neat if you could add something similar as sprites. (I'll remake my concepts and post them here, eventually.)

I haven't actually decided to do this just thought it was a neat idea, but i did some flicking through of source code for the first time in a while last night and in theory it should be simple to add new ships sprites and have them usable to the player the only problem is that vex has it limited to 100 due to the buying icons which are in the same array as the ships, if you know what i mean, so to have more than 100 you would have to change the underlying code rather than simply changing and adding data values, which shouldn't be to difficult but when i tried it in the past i remember it being very difficult for some reason, when i tried this it went wrong.

thing is you would also encounter the same problem when streaming images and data values as they would need to be stored in a local array to be used therefore encountering the same problem of being limited to 100 ships due to the buying array.

however adding more planets should be really simple as that is just adding some new data values but whats the point of new planets if they don't sell new ships or something different or look different

Oh. well, I was bored so I made the concept sprites anyway lol.

These are not final and will probably not be used for anything other than reference. Took about 5 minutes to whip them up.

actually thinking about the shipyard idea seriously it might actually be possible all you'd have to do is put the ship array underneath the station and then a bit of action script to set the ship to the one you are currently using

Another thing I'd personally like to see, more realistic weapons. The weapons in the game are fine now, but I think the hull values and shield strengths should be increased on all ships and then weapons be re-evaluated to be closer to cannon ships, Although that would be a lot of bull shit to go through, it might make the game better in the long run. I'd also like to see things like Phasers be affected by how big the ship is. (I.e. larger power output = more phaser power)

Also maybe larger ships fire more than 1 torpedo at a time. Just a thought.

the torpedo thing is already in the game those two boxes at the side control phaser and torpedo spread so you can fire more than one at once. also the larger ship mechanic is already in because of the recharge timer kind of.

also looking at the code a minute ago adding more ships is a massive pain as i would have to either move all the exp, flag things and stations then change the code to get everything from the right place or completely rework the the buying system so that items are bought from a totally different array so like each station has two items for sale and 4 ships but thinking about it that wouldnt work as the data values for station would need to be completely reworked as well, to put it lightly it would be bloody difficult

Right, when the hell was that added to the game? I wish I had known about that... Would have saved my damn ship blowing up! I had a Reman Schimitar... then I blew up Remus... then my ship blew up... thinking back on it, wasn't the best idea to blow up remus.
